Beetles make up approximately 40% of all known insects on Earth, and also 25% of all life on Earth. There are more species of beetle than any other group of animals on the planet. New species are still being discovered. Beetles generally have hard outer shells (exoskeleton) and hard forewings which cover soft hind wings underneath.
